Gargoyle Removal Service is a quest available in Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines.

Acquisition[]

After finishing the Dead Ex quest, if the Fledgling asks Isaac if he needs help with anything, he'll give them this quest.

Walkthrough[]

Brief[]

  1. Talk to Isaac.
  2. Go to the Tremere Chantry and talk to Strauss. Given enough persuasion (at least 5, free for Tremere), he'll reveal that he created the Gargoyle. He will also give an item that increases defense against the Gargoyle.
  3. Go back to Hollywood and enter the Asian Theater.
  4. Kill or talk down the Gargoyle.
  5. Collect reward from Isaac. If he is not told that Strauss created the Gargoyle, Strauss will give the fledgling the Fae Charm. (Unofficial Patch Plus only).

Detailed[]

Get the Chinese Theater Key from Isaac, then go Downtown and visit Maximillian Strauss. There, he'll reveal (with 5 points in persuasion, or if the fledgling is a Tremere) that the Gargoyle is his making and that he wants it destroyed. He'll also give the fledgling the Rune of the Third Eye, which offers some protection against the Gargoyle. There are now two options regarding the Gargoyle's fate:

  1. Attempt to kill it. The Gargoyle is completely immune to firearms, and must be fought with melee weapons or brawling. Blunt weapons are preferable, specifically the sledgehammer. If the fledgling has no blunt weapons, fists work better that blades. If the Fledgling is a Tremere, revealing this to the Gargoyle will result in combat. (Experience Rewarded (Icon) 3 EXP)
  2. Convince it to ally with Isaac. This requires at least a persuasion of 6 to attempt, and the conversation should be steered toward Isaac being against the Camarilla. Any wrong choice in the dialogue minefield will result in combat. (Experience Rewarded (Icon) 3 EXP)

Whichever approach is chosen, it's possible to return to Strauss for a small reward of $500. If the nonlethal approach is used, Strauss can be lied to regarding the Gargoyle's fate. If the fledgling is a Tremere and has completed the quest A Plague for the Angels, Strauss will offer the Tremere Chantry as a new haven and give the fledgling a proper induction into the clan as an apprentice.

It is possible to go back to Isaac (Experience Rewarded (Icon) 1 EXP and a Masquerade Redemption (Icon) Masquerade Redemption if playing with the Unofficial Patch Plus) and tell him that Strauss is the Gargoyle's creator (Experience Rewarded (Icon) 2 EXP). However, this will not only lose the Fae Charm if the player is Tremere, but indefinitely close the Tremere Chantry for the fledgling's use as a haven as well.

Quest Log[]

This section is incomplete and requires expansion.
Log Entry
  • Quest Log Updated (Icon) Update: Upon receiving quest (if book picked up in Tremere Chantry):
Isaac wants you to "take care of" the Gargoyle that has taken up residence in the old Asian theater. You picked up a book about Gargoyles at the Tremere chantry downtown. Perhaps you should pay Maximillian Strauss, the Tremere regent, a visit.
  • Quest Log Updated (Icon) Update: Once conversation with Maximillian Strauss starts (this can also be the first quest log if the book wasn't collected from the Chantry):
Isaac wants you to "take care of" the Gargoyle that has taken up residence in the old Asian theater.
  • Quest Log Updated (Icon) Update: If the Gargoyle is destroyed:
You have destroyed the Gargoyle at the request of the Baron of Hollywood, Isaac Abrams. Go tell him.
  • Quest Log Updated (Icon) Update: If the Gargoyle is recruited:
You have convinced the Gargoyle to ally himself with Isaac Abrams against the Camarilla, thereby removing the threat to the Kindred of Hollywood. Go tell him.
  • Quest Log Updated (Icon) Update: After speaking to Isaac (but not revealing the Gargoyles origin):
You told Isaac Abrams that you solved his Gargoyle problem. Maybe you should tell the Tremere regent about this too.
  • Quest Log Updated (Icon) Update: Upon completion (Gargoyle destroyed, Isaac not told about its origin):
You told Isaac Abrams that you solved his Gargoyle problem.
  • Quest Complete (Icon) Quest Complete
  • Quest Log Updated (Icon) Update: Upon completion (Gargoyle destroyed, Isaac told about its origin):
You told Isaac Abrams that you solved his Gargoyle problem. No need to tell the Tremere Regent now that you betrayed him.
  • Quest Complete (Icon) Quest Complete

Items[]

  • Chinese Theater Key
  • Rune of the Third Eye
  • $500
  • Fae Charm (Unofficial Patch Plus only)
  • Video tape (if given to Gary Golden will reward a poster for your Haven)

Notes[]

  • The Gargoyle will remain in the Asian Theater if the quest is completed after negotiate with the Gargoyle and reporting to Isaac. If the player attacks the Gargoyle it will became hostile and if he kills it then the completed quest will be an active quest again and there will be an update recommending to inform back to Isaac that the Gargoyle has been destroyed. However, this cannot be possible as the correct dialogues with Isaac will not appear when having a conversation with him and therefore will not be possible to complete or re-complete the quest.
  • The gargoyle appears to have been sculpted wearing a set of ancient Chinese armor, suggesting Strauss either created the golem out of a Chinese statue, or has an affinity for the Chinese aesthetic.
  • Following the line of thinking above. The armor appears to be an amalgam of various dynasties, from Shang to Song and even Qin
  • The video tape can be found in the center of the stage, next to the central loudspeaker, in the theater behind the gargoyle.
  • It is possible for the gargoyle to become stuck on debris, allowing you to make the fight easier. Simply run up the stairs, and proceed all the way to either the left or right, and allow the gargoyle to destroy the platform(s) and bait him to walk through it.
  • Despite being made of stone, disciplines such as Burrowing Beetle, Spectral Wolf, etc. deal considerable damage to him.
  • If you delay this quest until after the Giovanni Stronghold, you can use the Saulocept to gain additional experience.
