Nightly News at 9 sign

The Nightly News @ 9 is the flagship news program on Channel 9, the only television channel accessible in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. Presented by the Newscaster, voiced by Brian Mitsoda, the program reports events in the World of Darkness universe in LA, primarily events that take place in Bloodlines, especially events involving the fledgling protagonist. The Channel 9 newsroom, where the program is filmed, can only be accessed with the use of no-clip in a haven with a working television set. [1]

The news program is one of three main media outlets in the game informing the player of activity in the world around them alongside the nightly radio station, KTRK and the LA Sun newspapers found throughout the game.

Although it is not yet confirmed, there are some hints that the program and it's host may make a return in the upcoming sequel, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2.[2]

Trivia[]

  • The blue ticket tape displayed during the program never changes, always reading: "Stabbing victim found at the Santa Monica Pier. Police are currently searching for clues. Tomorrow's high expected in 70’s. Tonight’s low 50 degrees."
  • The news title card, Terror at the PIER, is a reference to the quests, Carnival of Death and Mudd Hunt.
  • If playing a Malkavian, the newscaster may address the character directly; for example, stating that the source of the explosion at a warehouse (the outcome of the Explosive Beginning quest) "likely came ... from you."
  • One of the news reports tells of a protest in Washington, D.C. over violent video games. The topic was a cause celebre at the time this game was released. A reference to a Senator upset over being parodied in one of these games is made; this may be a reference to Sen. Joseph Lieberman, who led the charge against violent video games in the 1990s and early 2000s and is referenced by name in the game Postal 2, which came out a year before VTMB.
